AFTER FOUR started with a simple rule that became one of the clearest parts of the brand: roasted, never fried.
It sounds short because it is. We wanted the preparation method to be easy to understand and consistent across the snacks we choose to build around.
Why roasting fits the range
Makhana, edamame and chana are very different ingredients, but they share one useful quality: roasting can turn each of them into a genuinely satisfying crunchy snack without asking them to pretend to be something else.
Makhana become light and crisp. Edamame develop a dense, sharp crunch. Chana become dry, hearty and familiar. The texture changes, but the ingredient still feels recognisable.
Crunch first, flavour second
For us, seasoning only works when the base snack is good enough to carry it. A bold flavour cannot rescue a weak crunch.
So the order matters. First comes the roasted texture. Then comes the flavour system around it: salt and pepper, peri peri, pudina, cheese, achaari masala, hing jeera and everything else we explore.
The seasoning should make the snack more fun, not bury what is underneath.
Flavour should have a point of view
We are not interested in making five versions that taste almost the same. Himalayan Salt & Pepper should feel clean and sharp. Peri Peri should have heat. Pudina should feel fresh and masala-led. Cheese should be unmistakably savoury. Achaari Masala should bring tang and spice.
Different 4 PM moods deserve genuinely different options.
ONE RULE: ROAST IT FOR THE CRUNCH. BUILD THE FLAVOUR AROUND IT.
What “never fried” means for AFTER FOUR
It is not a claim that every roasted food is automatically better than every fried food. It is simply the preparation choice we have made for this brand and the kind of snacking experience we want to create.
It gives us a clear filter when we look at new products: can this ingredient become exciting through roasting? Can it deliver real crunch? Can it carry flavour without losing its own identity?
If the answer is yes, it probably belongs in the conversation.
A simple rule makes a stronger brand
The best brand rules help you decide what not to do. “Roasted, never fried” keeps us focused as we add new snacks and flavours. It also tells you, quickly, what kind of pouch you are picking up.
At 4 PM, that is exactly how we want it: less overthinking, more crunch.
